I discovered the first two books at my daughter's school at a book fair. I started to read it and could not stop. I had to buy the series. So we had two extras which she donated to her best friend just so she would have someone to discuss the book with. TLS is brilliant. The seller made the collection available so quickly. We are looking forward to the summer reading in my house!

Brilliant read for people of all ages. These books are packed with puzzling situations, suspense, fun, and a little of everything. It's so good to finally read them again.

As for the condition of the item itself:
-It does come with four books, including the black one. It was difficult to tell from the picture whether that one was included or not, and it was.
-The box was in very good condition, with a little tear on one of the corners that wasn't too bothersome. A little Sharpie and no one will notice.
-The books are pristine.

Note: be prepared to wait a while-- a LONG while--for this item to arrive. The estimated delivery date varied widely, and this arrived at the very later end of that estimate. I would recommend buying this a few weeks to a month early if you need to have it by a certain date.

The Mystierious Benedict Society Books are a must. Take it from me, a 13year old girl who's a read-aholic; if you are looking for a clean comedy, mystery, or adventure-type book, you will find all three in these books. I just finished the first book, and am currently on the second one. The Mystierious Benedict Society, the first book, is the beginning of a seirious under-cover adventure for four children: Reynard "Reynie" Muldoon, George "Sticky" Washigton, Kate Wetherall, and tiny Constance Contraire. After each taking and passing a designated deities if tests, they not only befriend each other, but their club's namesake, Mr Benedict himself. You can trust me, I won't spoil the story for you ;) All that I'll say is that the Society goes under-cover to save their city of Stonetown, and more possibly the world. (And Universal Studios, out there? With a Kk due respect, you seiriously need to consider making a movie series out of these books. You won't regret it.)
Anyways, my brother has read three out of four of the books, and raves about them. I do too :D This will be money spent wisely. Look no further, mother-who-needs-an-interesting-but-clean-book-for-her-older-child; that set of books is here.

I loved these books, they're clever, funny, and keep you interested until the end. My favorite book is the prequel-The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict. I read it last, and I was glad. I really liked him throughout the series as an adult, so this book about him as a youngster was a treat. Trenton Lee Stewart is an excellent writer and created a cast of characters you root for from the beginning through the end (the good guys, of course!). I would love for him to continue the series, but the third book wraps thing up nicely if he doesn't. I decided to read these books based on the wonderful cover art, so in this case, you CAN judge a book by its cover.

I already had read all 3 Mysterious Benedict Society books, but I didn't own them all. I'm glad they put all three books into 1 big book and set the price at $10.00 verses buying all three books seperately for $21.00. These books where my all time favorite. The first book, The Mysterious Benedict Society, is about four kids, Reynie, Sticky, Kate, and Constance, who are joined together by the genius Nicholas Benedict with his two assitances, Number Two and Rhonda, and the gloomy Milligan. The four kids have to go to an intitute run by the evil Mr. Curtain that has an evil machine called the Whisperer that is sending messages into people's brains through things like cell phones and tv. They have to find a way to destroy the evil machine and stop Mr. Curtain. In book two, The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey, the group is back again to solve yet another problem. Mr. Benedict and Number Two have been captured by the evil Mr. Curtain while they were setting a complex scavenger hunt for the four kids. The kids have to try to find the clues to get to Mr. Benedict's location to save the day. In book three, The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisioner's Dilemma, the group has been confined in Mr. Benedict's house due to Mr. Curtain's escape at the island. When a buisnessman shows up a the house claiming he is Constance's father, she runs away. Of course, the entire household is after her. Then Mr. Curtain takes back his Whisperer and uses it for his own evil purposes again. Just pay $10.00 for all these amazing adventures!

Many people, if not all, know the saying “Never judge a book by its cover.” A couple years ago, I had resolved never to judge a book by its cover. I was pretty sure that I had followed that rule—until now. You see, a few years ago a friend gave us a book. Unfortunately, the cover illustration didn’t appeal to me (I recall that I thought that the people didn’t look realistic enough), and I didn’t read it. But here I am, or here this review is, to tell you about that poor, ignored book: The Mysterious Benedict Society Trilogy by Trenton Lee Stewart!

The Mysterious Benedict Society Trilogy is about a group of four children—Kate, Reynie, Sticky, and Constance (aka The Mysterious Benedict Society)—who are chosen to solve a problem. Led by Mr. Benedict, they get electrified, handcuffed, and chased during their struggles to defeat Ledroptha Curtain (Mr. Benedict’s evil twin) and his wicked machine, the Whisperer. But Mr. Curtain is also dangerous. Will the Mysterious Benedict Society survive?

The Mysterious Benedict Society (book no. 1) was extremely adventurous. In this book, the Society goes to the Learning Institute for the Very Enlightened, Mr. Curtain’s school. Every day the Executives (Mr. Curtain’s helpers) gather in the gym. Reynie has the feeling that they were up to something, so he climbs up on Kate’s shoulders to peek. That’s not merely risky—that’s adventurous!
The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey (the second book) was exceedingly mysterious. In this book, Mr. Benedict is kidnapped by Mr. Curtain. However, Mr. Benedict leaves behind clues wherever he is taken. But some of them don’t make sense at all. What is the “twin moon?” Who is the “close” person Mr. Benedict talked about? You could say that the book smells of mystery.

The third book, The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner’s Dilemma, was full of suspense. Although I did get a little confused when the Ten Men launched their assault on the Society, one question thundered through my head as I read it: “Is this the end of The Mysterious Benedict Society?” I flipped the pages faster and faster, just to find that the Society was completely . . . actually, I don’t think I’ll tell you.
This trilogy was a magnum opus. If you like action and mystery, you’ll love it. Remember, never judge a book by its cover. Especially not this one! If you'd like to see more youth reviewed books, go my to my blog, bookshelfexplorer.

My daughter just loved these books. In fact these were the first of its kind she read and fell in love with reading big chapter books. She read it, read it again and read it again. She has all three books and wish there were more in the series.

Because she liked it so much the younger too wanted to read it and loved it, wrote a book report for school and made a poster and enjoyed it all over.

Thanks to the author for making my daughters hooked on reading. I was very pleased with the purchase. It was worth every penny!

What I liked best about Mysterious Benedict Society books was the characters. The plot can get pretty weird and at times seems weak and tests the good will of the reader, but the characters easily save the day. You can see them, touch them and smell them, and they are both original and likable. I read on and on, book after book, not because I cared about the plottings of the villain, which stretch the limits of plausibility, but because I wanted to know what would happen to Reynie, Kate and Sticky. The three are remarkable on their own, but even more as a group, they complement each other so well.

It might come as a surprise, then, that the books greatest flaw also lies in its characters. Mr. Stewart can build a great character, but there are too many of them and all have memorable qualities. The very irrelevance of many characters renders the richness of detail meaningless and, at times, lifeless. It even seems like the author got a whole bunch of characters together to start with and then tried to make a story work for them all, which is maybe why the plot feels so weird.

A couple of examples: Rhonda Kazembe has such a memorable entrance at the beginning of book 1 that the reader is led to believe she will be one of the main characters. Yet she disappears completely afterward. Constance gets built up the whole book while doing nothing (thankfully that changes in book 2) and when she finally does, it fails to meet expectations. The Mucho Brazos character, as colorful as he is, plays no part at all in the story. All these characters do is draw attention away from the characters that matter and create expectations in the reader that they never meet.

In conclusion, while they're far from perfect, these books are very original and are very much worth a read if you are into the genre.

Mysterious Benedict Society books are awesome. Super-genius kids find ways to outwit evil adults and help good ones. Adventurous, fun childhood fantasy that allows the reader to try to figure out the puzzles with the protagonist. THis three volume set on kindle is an unbelieveably good deal.

But, get the sample first. My son and I enjoyed the illustrations in the paperback books that we have. The Kindle version does not have the illustrations. Even, the Kindle version pricing is still a bargain. Hope to see more cool kids' collections on Kindle soon!

If your child likes this type of story, he/she might also enjoy the Tom Swift series - free on Gutenberg or the entire collection is formatted for the Kindle at a very low price through the store here: Tom Swift Collection (With easy click Table of Contents)

I read this series and comepletely loved it. I enjoyed the puzzles the characters were made to solve as well as the characters themselves. What really makes me happy about this series is that it has a good vs. evil plot with convincing villians,
but there is never any profanities, graphic violence, or innapropriate scenes. Unlike lots of other series, ie: Maximum Ride, The Hunger Games, it has nothing that would cause anyone to turn up their nose. So, if you have not already, please read this series.
